Authentic Voices is a trilogy of training DVDs that focuses on strategies for communicating through an interpreter within educational, medical, and workplace settings.
Each DVD comes with additional resources to support a systemic approach to providing multilingual services. The Educational Setting goes a step further with supporting materials for facilitating workshops with educators and parents. The series contains filmed, real-life encounters coupled with spoken instructions and motion graphics.
Each DVD has segments in English for service providers and Spanish for immigrants. Even for immigrants who do not speak Spanish, the vignettes from the videos are a useful illustration of key techniques for communicating through an interpreter, such as where to sit during a meeting, how long to speak, and who to look at. The facilitator guides that come with the Educational Setting can be used as a base to translate the content into any number of languages.
